Our Story
Meet Rodney, Melissa & Tahlia
Rodney, Tahlia and Melissa, behind the counter at the store.
After a year of planning, dreaming and renovating, we have taken on the Giru Store and are turning it into something far bigger than a business: a convenience store, a cafe and a rural supply shed, built in the heart of town for the community we love.
For Melissa, this is a homecoming. She spent her first twenty years working in the grocery shop on Magnetic Island, and bringing that experience back to the mainland has been a lifelong ambition. Rodney is pouring his craft into renovating the shop, setting up the rural shed and restoring the house next door so Tahlia, Melissa's niece, has a home of her own while she cooks up a storm in the cafe. We are aiming to open the cafe by the end of September.
Alongside the shop, we continue to pour our hearts into Giru Organics potting mix, Matchy Matchy Horse Apparel, the farm, the chooks and, of course, the Labradors. This is more than a business to us; it is our way of giving something lasting to Giru. We would love to see you at the store.
"A huge warm welcome to Rodney, Melissa and Tahlia as they begin this exciting new chapter at Giru Cafe & Convenience! It's fantastic to see a local family taking on the shop. We encourage everyone to get behind this wonderful local family, pop in for a chat, enjoy a bite to eat and show them your support."
